Site Update – Tarrant Monkton & Tarrant Launceston War Memorial

The Tarrant Monkton & Tarrant Launceston War Memorial has now been added to the site. This is a single war memorial that covers both villages.

As usual, I have added only basic biographical details to start with, as I have always believed it’s better to have a little on everyone, rather than a large amount on only a few. I will of course update and add further details in time.

Site Update – Sixpenny Handley War Memorial Added

Sixpenny Handley War Memorial has now been added to the site. Interestingly, the memorial lists a couple of brothers, as well as men who enlisted together in 1914.

Site Update – Alderholt War Memorial Added

After a longer break than I had hoped, I have now added Alderholt War Memorial to the site.

As usual, I have added only basic biographical details to start with, as I have always believed it’s better to have a little on everyone, rather than a large amount on only a few. I will of course update and add further details in time.

Site Update – Cann War Memorial Added

This week I have added Cann War Memorial to the site. The memorial itself actually now sits in Shaftesbury, just outside of Shaftesbury School. It is not clear if this is the original site of the memorial or not.

Curiously, the memorial actually has another memorial attached to it, from the village of Kington Magna, around 7 miles away. I will cover this as a separate memorial page for Kington Magna in due course.

As usual, I have added only basic biographical details to start with, as I have always believed it’s better to have a little on everyone, rather than a large amount on only a few. I will of course update and add further details in time.

This memorial itself was relatively easy to research, as it gives christian names and regiments/units.

Site Update – Talbot Village War Memorial Added

Since re-launching the new look site early this week, I have now been able to add an additional war memorial – Talbot Village (Wallisdown).

As usual, I have added only basic biographical details to start with, as I have always believed it’s better to have a little on everyone, rather than a large amount on only a few. I will of course update and add further details in time.

This particular war memorial has been one of the more difficult to research, and sadly, I have not yet been able to positively identify all those on the war memorial. As time permits, I shall circle back and try again.

New Website

After several years running an increasingly outdated site, I am happy to announce the new site is up and running! Over the coming weeks I will be working hard to amend any errors that occur, and re-word much of the existing content.

The old site was created and run with Adobe Dreamweaver, but with other options now available to me, I have decided to move to a new, and less time consuming web builder.

The original design for the old homepage from 2014.

Over the coming months I hope to add more war memorials to the site, as well as a host of other information on the Dorsetshire Regiment and Queen’s Own Dorset Yeomanry.

I am more than happy to continue to answer questions, but please do bear with me in this transition period.
