HENRY GEORGE BALSON | AGED 38 | 6TH BATT. SOMERSET.L.I.Y
28569 Pte Henry George Balson 6 Bn Somerset Light Infantry, formerly 13760 Pte Dorset Regiment. Henry was born in Tyneham resided in Swanage. In August 1910, he married Florence Amelia Barnard in Holnest. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Henry Died of Wounds on 20th October 1917, aged 38. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. The CWGC lists “Son of William and Amelia Balson, of East Lulworth, Dorset; husband of F. A. Balson, of “Rocquaine,” Victoria Avenue, Swanage, Dorset”.
CHARLES JOB CLEALL | AGED 27 | 2/4TH BATT. DORSET REGT.
113367 Pte Charles Job Cleall 257 Coy Machine Gun Corps, formerly 3183 Pte Dorset Regiment. Charles was born in Chaldon Herring and resided in East Lulworth. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Charles died of disease in Mesopotamia on 2nd November 1917, aged 27. He is buried in Basra War Cemetery. The CWGC lists “Son of John and Hannah Cleall”.

HARRY HOLLAND | AGED 27 | 2ND BATT. DORSET REGT.
8117 Pte Harry Holland 2 Bn Dorset Regiment. Harry was born in Hounslow and resided at Corfe Castle. He was a pre-war regular soldier, having enlisted in Wareham. Harry Died of Wounds in Mesopotamia on 8th December 1915. He is buried in Kut War Cemetery. His brother also appears on the Tyneham War Memorial, see next entry.

JOHN HOLLAND | AGED 21 | 9TH HANTS CYCLIST BATT.
29626 Pte John Holland 14 Bn Hampshire Regiment. John was born in Bere Regis and resided at Corfe Castle. He enlisted for the Great War in Southampton. John Died of Wounds at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley on 13th November 1916, aged 21. He is buried in Netley Military Cemetery. The CWGC lists “Son of Rose Holland of Tyneham, Corfe Castle, Dorset, and the late John Holland”. His brother also appears on the Tyneham War Memorial, see previous entry.

WILLIAM GEORGE MEECH | AGED 28 | 1ST DORSET YEOMANRY.
996 Pte William George Meech 1/1 Dorset Yeomanry. William was born in Charminster and resided in Wareham. He enlisted for the Great War in Sherborne. William was Killed in Action at the Charge at Agagia, on the 26th February 1916, aged 28. It was one of the last great cavalry charges made by the British Army. Charles is also remembered on our Agagia Roll of Honour. He is buried in Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Cemetery.

BERTRAM TAYLOR | AGED 21 | 1ST DORSET YEOMANRY.
1019 Pte Bertie Taylor 1/1 Dorset Yeomanry. Bertie was born in Tincleton and resided in Tyneham. He enlisted for the Great War in Sherborne. Bertie was Killed in Action at Gallipoli on 21st August 1915, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. The CWGC lists “Son of William Taylor, of Tyneham, Corfe Castle, Dorset”.
