H W GREEN

12563 L/Cpl Herbert William Green 7 Bn Suffolk Regiment. Herbert was born in Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in Cambridge. Herbert Died of Wounds on the 22nd July 1915 aged 24. He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord. The CWGC lists "Son of Mr. and Mrs. William Green, of 45, Durweston, Blandford, Dorset".

H G COOMBS

10632 Pte Henry George Coombs 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Henry was born in Dublin and resided at East Street, Stourpaine with his aunt Susan. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford. Henry Died at Sea of Dysentery on the 26th November 1915 aged 31. He is now commemorated on the Helles Memorial to the missing. The CWGC lists "Son of the late George and Rosaline Coombs".

C F JEANS

6273 Pte Cecil Frank Jeans 2/19 Bn London Regiment, Formerly 82026 Pte Royal Army Medical Corps. Cecil was born in Stourpaine. He resided in Blandford. He also enlisted for the Great War in Blandford too. Cecil Died of Appendicitis on the 21st December 1916 aged 22. He is buried in Salonika (Lembet Road) Military Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Frank and Elizabeth Jeans, of West St., Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset".

E V UPWARD

200946 Pte Ernest Victor Upward 1/4 Bn Dorset Regiment. Ernest resided in Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Ernest was Killed in Action on the 28th September 1917 aged 28. He is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Mrs. Lucy Upward, of Ivy Cottage, Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset".

R E COWARD

31672 Pte (Robert) Edwin Coward 1 Bn Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, Formerly 17451 Pte Dorset Regiment. Edwin was born in Stourpaine and resided in West Street, Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford. He had previously been a Horseman on a farm. Edwin was Killed in Action on the 7th October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

F UPWARD

17365 Pte Frederick Upward 2 Bn Dorset Regiment. Frederick was born and resided in Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Frederick Died in India on the 17th November 1917 aged 26. He is buried in Bolarum Cavalry Barracks Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Charles and Mary Hannah Upward, of Decoy Pond, Stourpaine, Dorset".

F A E SAVORY

27538 Pte Frederick Savory 2/4 Bn Dorset Regiment. Frederick was born and resided in Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Frederick was Killed (Drowned) whilst onboard HT Aragon when it was sunk by a U-Boat off the coast of Alexandria on the 30th December 1917. He is now commemorated on the Chatby Memorial.

A S W HARDY

367955 Dvr Arthur Samuel William Hardy 5 Field Sqn Royal Engineers, Formerly 2308 Pte Dorset Yeomanry, 301072 Pte Buckinghamshire Yeomanry and 4095 Pte Staffordshire Yeomanry. Arthur was born at Durweston and resided at Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in Sherborne. Arthur Died of Illness on the 23rd October 1918 aged 38. He is buried in Beirut War Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Husband of Mrs. Hardy, of 12, Dock Parade, Newport, Mon".

R FRY

1223 Pte Reginald Jack Fry D Coy 23 Bn Australian Infantry. Reginald was born in Tarrant Gunville. He was living in Australia at the time of the Great War and was working as a sheep farmer. Reginald then enlisted for the Great War at Melbourne in March 1915. He Died of Pneumonia on the 3rd September 1915 onboard HS Neuralia. He was buried at sea and is now commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial. His next of kin was his father Henry Fry of 5 Ash, Stourpaine.

C H S UPSHALL

J/23852 AB Charles Harry Sylvester Upshall HMS Invincible. Charles was born on the 3rd April 1897 at Mitcham. He was a pre war sailor in the Royal Navy having enlisted as a Boy in March 1913. Before this he was a Dairy Boy. He resided at The Corner, Stourpaine. Charles was Killed in Action at the Battle of Jutland on the 31st May 1916 aged 19. HMS Invincible was sunk in 90 seconds with only 6 survivors. His body was not recovered for burial. He is commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of Charles and Mary Upshall, of 1, Pimperne, Blandford, Dorset".

F J RICHARDSON

19552 Pte Frank James Richardson 6 Bn Dorset Regiment. Frank was born at Durweston and resided in Blandford. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Frank Died of Wounds on the 24th April 1917 aged 24. He is buried in Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun. The CWGC lists "Son of Mary Jane Richardson, of Rose Cottage, 2, High St., Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset, and the late Henry G. Richardson".

H J TAPPER

10079 Pte Harold Joseph Tapper 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Harold was born and resided in Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in August 1914 at Blandford. He had previously been a Blacksmith's Mate and had served with the 4th Dorsets (Territorial Force). Harold was wounded on the 26th September 1916 with multiple gun shot wounds to his left arm and leg. He was again wounded on the 5th October 1917 with gun shot wounds to his legs, hand and arm. Harold Died of these Wounds at 57 General Hospital, Boulogne on the 17th October 1917 aged 28. He is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Samuel and Ann Tapper, of High St., Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset".

230902 Pte Harry Lawrence Jeans 1/1 Dorset Yeomanry. Harry resided at Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War at Sherborne. Harry Died of Wounds on the 15th November 1917 aged 24. He is buried in Ramleh War Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of John W. and Eleanor Mary Jeans, of Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset".

44636 Pte William John Bee 25 Bn Machine Gun Corps, Formerly 11493 Pte North Staffordshire Regiment. William was born and resided in Blandford. He enlisted for the Great War in Burton-on-Trent. William Died of Wounds on the 26th April 1918 aged 32. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Charles and Emily Bee, of East St., Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset".

R H RIDEOUT

19555 Pte Reginald Henry Rideout 6 Bn Dorset Regiment. Reginald was born and resided in Stourpaine. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. He had formerly been a House Painter. Reginald was Killed in Action on the 15th May 1917 aged 28. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of Henry William and Martha Jane Rideout, of Stourpaine, Blandford, Dorset".
