JOHN THOMAS BOWERING

10486 Pte John Tom Bowering 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. John was born in Winterborne St Martin and resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester and had previously been a Farm Carter. John was Killed in Action on the 9th August 1915 aged 23 at Gallipoli. He is now commemorated on the Helles Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of Charles and Alice Jane Bowering, of Hewish, Milborne St. Andrews, Blandford".

WALTER CHENEY

15369 Pte Walter Cheney 2 Bn Dorset Regiment. Walter was born in Wool and was baptised there in February 1894. He resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford, having previously been a Farm Labourer. Walter Died of Wounds in Mesopotamia on the 13th March 1916 aged 21. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on the Basra Memorial.

FRANK CHVRCHILL

TR/8/28598 Pte Frank Churchill 52 Garrison Bn Hampshire Regiment. Frank Died at a Military Hospital on the 8th December 1918 aged 18. He is buried in Milton Abbas Church Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of John and Elizabeth Churchill, of Milton Abbas". His brother also appears on the Milton Abbas War Memorial. See next entry.

MARK CHVRCHILL

12624 Pte Mark Churchill 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Mark was born and resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War at Dorchester in December 1914, having previously been an Indoor Servant. Mark was Killed in Action (Missing, Presumed Dead) at Gallipoli on the 21st August 1915 aged 18. He is now commemorated on the Helles Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of John and Elizabeth Churchill, of Milton Abbas, Blandford". His brother also appears on the Milton Abbas War Memorial. See previous entry.

VICTOR CHVRCHILL

10707 Pte Victor Churchill 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Victor was born in Milborne St Andrews and resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War at Dorchester in September 1914, having previously been a Labourer. Victor was Killed in Action (Missing, Presumed Dead) at Gallipoli on the 22nd August 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Also remembered on Bere Regis War Memorial.

ROBERT DIMENT

10936 Pte Robert James Diment A Coy 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Robert was born in Cheselbourne and resided in Blandford. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Robert Died at Witley Camp on the 25th April 1915 aged 22. He is buried in Aldershot Military Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Mr. W. J. and Mrs. A. Diment, of Crawthorne, Dewlish, Dorchester, Dorset". Also remembered on Dewlish War Memorial.

JOHN FIANDER

18195 Pte Levi John Fiander 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Levi was born in Milton Abbas and resided in Winterborne Stickland. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford, having previously been a Farm Labourer. He married Elizabeth Hannah Robbins at Winterborne Houghton in October 1905. Levi Died of Wounds on the 29th November 1917 aged 32. He is buried in Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Frederick Fiander, of Milton Abbas, Blandford; husband of Elizabeth Hannah Fiander, of Stickland, Blandford". Also remembered on Winterborne Stickland War Memorial.

GORDON FOOKES

225 Pte Henry (Gordon) George Fookes A Coy 19 Bn Australian Infantry. Gordon enlisted for the Great War at Liverpool, New South Wales in February 1915, having previously been a Station Hand. Gordon Died of Dysentery onboard HS Assaye on the 10th October 1915. He is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery. He listed his next of kin as his sister Daisy Fookes. His personal affects were returned and consisted of; ID Disc, Knife, Fountain Pen, Pipe Lighter, Belt, Six Coins, Artificial Teeth, two Hair Brushes, Post Cards,Tobacco Pouch, Pipe, Letters and Cards.

WALTER HOMER

10647 Pte Thomas John Homer 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Thomas was born in Shillingstone and resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford, having previously been a Gamekeeper. Thomas was Killed in Action at Gallipoli on the 21st August 1915 aged 24. He is now commemorated on the Helles Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of William and Amelia Ann Homer, of Keeper's Lodge, Down House, Blandford".

GEORGE FREDERICK JAMES

10408 Pte George James 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. George was born in Preston, Dorset. He resided at Hewish, Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. George was Killed in Action on the 26th September 1916 aged 27. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the missing on the Somme. The CWGC lists "Son of Henry James, of Higher Kingston, Dorchester, Dorset".

EVERARD JOHN KIDDLE

10400 L/Cpl Everard John Kiddle 6 Bn Dorset Regiment. Everard was born in Hilton and resided in Poole. He also enlisted for the Great War in Poole, having previously been a Wood Sawyer. He married Annie Louise Robbins in December 1905 at Winterborne Houghton. He served with the 5th Dorsets at Gallipoli. Everard was Killed in Action on the 27th June 1917 aged 39. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on the Arras Memorial to the missing. The CWGC lists "Son of Mrs. E. Kiddle, of 55, Milton Abbas, Blandford, Dorset; husband of Annie Louise Kiddle, of 44A, Market St., Poole, Dorset".

WILLIAM MARSH

29710 Pte William Frank Marsh 2 Bn Hampshire Regiment. William was born in Affpuddle and resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford. William was Killed in Action on the 14th October 1916. He has no known grave and is now commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the missing on the Somme. His next of kin was his father Frank.

HERBERT OBORNE

24122 Pte Herbert Oborne 1 Bn Dorset Regiment. Herbert was born in Sherborne and resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford. Herbert Died of Disease on the 13th June 1917. He is buried in Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery.

CHARLES TREASVRE

60935 Pte Charles Edward Treasure 154 Coy Machine Gun Corps, Formerly 37619 Army Service Corps. Charles was born and resided in Stower Row. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Charles was Killed in Action on the 22nd July 1917 aged 19. He is buried in Gwalia Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of John Treasure, of Sower Row, Shaftesbury, Dorset, and the late Elizabeth Treasure".

FREDERICK VACHER

266814 Pte Frederick Vacher 2/4 Bn Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry. Frederick was born in Milton Abbas on the 22nd January 1883. Before the Great War he had served in the Royal Navy, having enlisted in December 1901. He left the Royal Navy in December 1913. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford. Frederick Died of Wounds on the 27th October 1918. He is buried in St Aubert British Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Mr. M. W. Vatcher, of Milton Abbas, Blandford, Dorset".

ERNEST WILLS

10488 Pte Ernest Wills 5 Bn Dorset Regiment. Ernest was born in Boghampton, Blandford and resided in Milton Abbas. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Ernest was Killed in Action (Missing, Presumed Dead) at Gallipoli on the 21st August 1915 aged 22. He is now commemorated on the Helles Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of Edward and Mary Wills, of The Higher Lodge, Milton Abbas, Blandford".
