DOMINIC ADDLETON

201490 (3592) Pte Dominic William Addleton 1/4 Bn Hampshire Regiment. Dominic resided in Hinton Martell. He enlisted for the Great War in Bournemouth. Dominic was Killed in Action on the 24th February 1917 aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial.

EDWARD CHARLES BAKER

14525 Pte Edward Baker 2 Bn Dorset Regiment. Edward was born and resided at Hinton Martell. He enlisted for the Great War in Witchampton. Edward Died on the 10th October 1916. He is buried in Amara War Cemetery.

SYDNEY BARRETT

6343 Pte Sidney Herbert Barrett 45 Bn Machine Gun Corps, Formerly 15017 Pte Dorset Regiment. Sidney was born in Langton. He enlisted for the Great War in Blandford. Sidney Died of Wounds on the 26th August 1916 aged 25. He is buried in Millencourt Communal Cemetery Extension. The CWGC lists "Son of Walter and Emily Jane Barrett, of Scotland Langton, Blandford". Also remembered on Langton Long War Memorial.

ORLANDO CURTIS

J/2705 AB Orlando Curtis HMS Princess Irene. Orlando was born on the 12th February 1893 in Mere. He was a pre war sailor having joined the Royal Navy as a Boy in September 1908. Orlando was Killed on the 27th May 1915 when HMS Princess Irene exploded due to a badly primed mine onboard. His body was not recovered for burial. He is now commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. His next of kin was listed as his mother Elizabeth who resided at Hounds Hill, Hill Butts, Wimborne.

GEORGE FRAMPTON

10297 Gnr William George Frampton D Battery 251 Brigade Royal Field Artillery. William was born in Wimborne. He enlisted for the Great War in Witchampton. William Died of Wounds on the 27th September 1918 aged 23. He is buried in Sunken Road Cemetery, Boisleux-St. Marc. The CWGC lists "Son of Fred and Louisa Frampton, of Long Crichel, Wimborne".

ALBERT EDWARD INGRAM

26599 L/Cpl Edward Albert Ingram 2 Bn Wiltshire Regiment, Formerly 18192 Dorset Regiment. Edward was born in Hinton Martell and resided in Wimborne. He enlisted for the Great War in Wimborne too. Edward was Killed in Action on the 15th June 1918. He is now buried in Marfaux British Cemetery. He left a wife Elsie, and a daugther Ethel.

JOSEPH JAMES

3/8008 Joseph James 6 Bn Dorset Regiment. Joseph was born in Moor Crichel. He was a Special Reservist who had enlisted in Poole. Joseph Died on the 21st January 1915 aged 46. He is buried in Hinton Martell (St. John The Evangelist) Churchyard. The CWGC lists "Son of John and Eliza James, of Hinton Martell; husband of Mary Jane James, of 53, Kingston Rd., Heckford Park, Poole".

WILLIAM JAMES

3/3740 Pte William James 12 Bn Hampshire Regiment. William was born in Holt and resided in Wimborne. He was a Special Reservist who had enlisted in Poole. He was wounded at Gallipoli whilst serving with the 2nd Hampshires. William was Killed in Action on the 18th September 1918. He is buried in Karasouli Military Cemetery.

JAMES KENT

65108 Dvr Albert James Kent 13 Battery 17 Brigade Royal Field Artillery. James was born in Wimborne. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. James Died of Wounds on the 23rd July 1917 aged 21. He is buried in Canada Farm Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of John and Alice Kent, of 4, Turnpike Cottage, Motcombe, Dorset. Native of Sturminster Marshall, Dorset".

ARTHUR LAWES

SS/4964 AB Arthur Henry Lawes HMS Paxton. Arthur was born on the 11th September 1895 in Salisbury. He was a pre war sailor having joined the Royal Navy in May 1914. He had previously been a Shepherd. Arthur was Killed in Action on the 20th May 1917 aged 21 when HMS Paxton was torpedoed. His body was not recovered for burial. He is now commemorated on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of Mr. J. Lawes, of Whatcombe, Whitechurch. Blandford, Dorset. Native of Hinton Martell, Wimborne".

GEORGE SQUIBB

9060 Pte George Squibb 2 Bn Hampshire Regiment. George was born in Hinton Martell and resided in Wimborne. He was a pre war regular soldier who had enlisted in Ringwood. George was Killed in Action at Gallipoli on the 28th April 1915 aged 23. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. The CWGC lists "Son of John and Emily Squibb, of Evergreen Cottage, Gaunt Common, Wimborne, Dorset".

WILLIAM SQUIBB

45077 L/Cpl William Arthur Squibb 12 Bn Machine Gun Corps, Formerly 12907 Dorset Regiment. William was born in Holt and resided at Little Lodge, Holt. He enlisted for the Great War in February 1915 at Wimborne and had previously been a Bricklayer. William qualified as a 1st class machine gunner in August 1915. He went to Gallipoli attached to the 7th Royal Munster Fusiliers along with many other men of the 3rd Dorsets. He ceased to be attached to the Royal Munster Fusiliers in February 1916, and in July 1916 transferred to the Machine Gun Corps. William was Killed in Action on the 27th March 1918. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial. He left a widow Laura, and a young daughter Ada. Also commemorated on the Wimborne War Memorial.

EDWARD STURNEY

895091 Pte Edward Henry Sturney 50 Bn Canadian Infantry. Edward was born on the 4th July 1889 in Hinton Martell. By the time of the Great War, he resided in Calgary, Canada and was a Warehouseman. He enlisted for the Great War in June 1916 at Calgary. Edward Died on the 26th October 1917 aged 40 (Although some confusion surrounds his actual age). He is now commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres to the missing. The CWGC lists "Son of Mrs. Emma Sturney, of Hinton Martel, Dorset, England; husband of Caroline E. Sturney, of 510, 1st Avenue West, Calgary, Alberta".

BERTIE TARGETT

25749 Pte Bertie Edward Targett 6 Bn Dorset Regiment. Bertie was born in Bournemouth and resided at Uppington, Hinton Martell. He enlisted for the Great War in Poole. Bertie Died as a Prisoner of War in Germany on the 14th September 1918. He is now buried in Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension.

HUBERT WAREHAM

18837 Pte Hubert Holroyd Charles Wareham 2 Bn Coldstream Guards. Hubert was born on the 28th November 1897 in Wimborne. He also enlisted for the Great War in Wimborne too. Hubert was Killed in Action on the 31st July 1917 aged 19. He is now buried in Artillery Wood Cemetery. The CWGC lists "Son of Charles and Annie Wareham, of 3, East Brook, Wimborne, Dorset". Also commemorated on the Wimborne War Memorial.

SYDNEY WILCOX

17197 L/Cpl Sidney Edward Wilcox 2 Bn Hampshire Regiment, Formerly 3/17909 Oxford & Bucks Light Infantry. Sidney was born in Gaunts Common and resided in Wimborne. He enlisted for the Great War at Chelsea Town Hall, London. Sidney was Killed in Action (Presumed Dead) at Gallipoli on the 6th August 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.

ERNEST WILLIAM WILKINS

200699 CSM Ernest Wilkins 1/4 Bn Dorset Regiment. Ernest was born in Sutton Waldron and resided at High Lea, Wimborne. He enlisted for the Great War in Dorchester. Ernest Died at Quetta, India on the 29th October 1918 aged 28. He was buried in Quetta Government Cemetery, but is now commemorated on the Delhi Memorial (India Gate). The CWGC lists "Son of Mrs. J. Wilkins, of Green Farm, Wimborne, Dorset. (Buried Quetta Govt. Cem. XXV. 2619.)".
